Mary Jean (Callaghan) Admirand, 79, of Brockton, died July 29, 2010. A U.S. Post Office supervisor, she retired in 1992 and enjoyed bingo and traveling. Mary was the daughter of the late Martin A. and Helen (McGary) Callaghan, beloved wife of William J. Richard A. Cannon, 74, of Kingston, formerly of Norwell, died suddenly at South Shore Hospital on July 17. Richard was the beloved husband of Marianne (Holmgren) Cannon, and a loving stepfather of Lisa Carriuolo of Manhattan, Adam Carriuolo and his wife Karen of Rehoboth, and Kaira Weddleton of East Bridgewater. He was a deeply involved and loving grandfather of Derek and Justin Duquette of East Bridgewater, and Avery and Griffin Carriuolo of Rehoboth. Richard is also survived by his brother William and his wife Nancy of Brewster, and several nieces and nephews. He was a good friend to Richard Duquette of East Bridgewater. The long-time owner of Avon Greenhouse and Flower Shop, Richard's talent, kindness, and generosity was admired and appreciated by friends and customers alike. Funeral services will be private. Kerri-Anne Exell, 36, of Brockton, passed away gently in her sleep on July 14, 2010. A graduate of Randolph High School, she attended Massasoit Community College and was a community outreach volunteer with LHI and COPE Center of Brockton. Rose Pearl (Harrison) Pettiford, 85, of Brockton, died July 21, 2010. Rose Harrison entered this life on December 18, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia to Carl & Vera Smith- Harrison. At the age of 3 the family moved North and settled in Newark, New Jersey. Rose attended the Monmouth Street Elementary School in Newark, N.J. Rose was an active member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Newark, N.J. where she sang in the choir. She also graduated from Southside High School. Rose was a lover of dance and she performed with the Hawaiian dance ensemble. In the mid 1940’s she met and married Edward Ralph Galloway of Newark, N.J. To this union one son was born Darryl Bruce Galloway. Rose was also a member of the Star Dusters Women’s auxiliary club. After her divorce to Edward Galloway she met and married Lucius Pettiford in the mid 1950’s. Unto this union one daughter was born Vera Michelle Pettiford better known as “Mikey”. In the early civil rights movement of the 1960’s she was actively involved in voter registration for Blacks in Newark, N.J. and also worked the voting poll stations. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s her loving friends Gretha Wheeler and Christine Sawyer introduced Rose to the Adventist message. Rose and her daughter accepted the Adventist message. They were baptized by Pastor John E. Collins and attended the Trinity Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Newark, N.J. She was an active member in the Choir, Prison Ministry, Treasury Dept and Senior Club. Rose was a teacher’s aide in the Newark Public School system and the Trinity Temple SDA Academy, Newark, N.J. She worked as a medical assistant secretary. Rose also was an assistant child care provider with the New Community Day Center in Newark, N.J. She had a love for writing and liked to read and often read to the children at the New Community Day Center. Rose was known for making chocolate cakes, peach cobblers and sweet potato puddings. In the summer of 2005 Rose moved to Brockton, Ma to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She also transferred her membership to the Berea SDA Church of Dorchester, Ma. Rose enjoyed attending the Saint Joseph Manor/ Mater Dei Adult Day Care Center in Brockton, Ma. After a brief stay at Saint Joseph’s Nursing home, Rose departed this life on July 21, 2010. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Lucius Pettiford and her late brother Ronald Harrison better known as “Sonny”. She leaves to cherish in the memories, her son, Darryl Galloway of Newark, N.J.; daughter, Vera Weeks of Brockton, Ma; daughter-in law Ida Galloway of Newark, N.J.; son-in law Ronald Weeks, Brockton, Ma; granddaughter Kisha Galloway-Small & her husband Thomas Small of Ladson, SC; grandson Darryl Galloway Jr. of Newark, N.J. granddaughter Venetta Weeks of Brockton, Ma. Donald R. Thompson, 78, of South Easton, died July 13, 2010. A native of Brockton, he lived in the city before moving to South Easton in 1981. A 1949 graduate of Brockton High School, he was a salesman in shoe manufacturing for Whittaker Corp. of CA and Barbour Corp. of Brockton until retirement. Donald enjoyed spending time in Chatham, where he resided at River Bay and was formerly a member of Central United Methodist Church there. A member of Brockton Historical Society and a former member of Kiwanis & Lions, he enjoyed travelling and wintering in Naples, FL and loved music and spending time with his extended family. Donald was the son of the late William A. and Myrtie M. (Thomas) Thompson, beloved husband of Marjorie L. (Pratt) Thompson for 57 years, loving brother of Wilma Pollard of FL and the late William A.  Franklin R. “Frank” Wilkins, 75, of Brockton, died July 11, 2010. A son of the late Grover C. and Lucy J. (Waller) Wilkins, he was born in Boissevain, VA. A member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he was a bus driver for MBTA for 25 years and belonged to American Legion Post 16 Dorchester. Frank enjoyed family gatherings and loved to give advice to those who looked to him for it. An avid Patriot and Celtics fan, he enjoyed fishing, traveling and barbecuing. He loved gardening and took pride in caring for his yard. Frank was the beloved husband of Mary E. Dorothy L. (Jezard) Howland, 81, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died July 12, 2010. A 1947 graduate of Brockton High School, she was a homemaker until she became an EKG technician at Brockton Hospital. She loved bingo, reading, bowling, line dancing and trips to Martha’s Vineyard. Donald E. Brissenden, 66, of Weymouth, died July 11, 2010. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam
and was a retired truck driver. A committal service and military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 9 a.m. at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton in the Veterans of All Wars Lot.
 Charles Wilson Johnson, 69, of Brockton, died July 8, 2010. Better known as Chuck, he was the second born to Wilson & Etha Belle Johnson on December 13, 1940, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1959 he joined the U.S. Navy and left with honorable discharge in 1963. In the year of 1969, he met Pamela A Howard in Cambridge, MA and on July 3, 1971 the two were joined in marriage. He graduated from Cambridge College in 1987 with his MEd with concentration in Business Management. Charles worked for Robert F. Kennedy Actions Corp, Fay A. Rotenberg School from 1982 until 1999 starting as a child care worker and leaving as the Program Director. He then worked other facilities with troubled youth and the mentally and physically challenged. Charles’ works focused on children and young adults. He felt with education and the proper guidance a child could become whatever they wanted. He was a giving person and he never left anyone in need. He volunteered in his community; Chairperson of the North Cambridge Teen Center, Manager of the North Cambridge Little League Baseball Team, North Cambridge Health and Social Service, Rodman Ride for Kids and was awarded many times including the Grassroots Activism Award for the Coalition for Social Justice & Coalition Against Poverty 2010. Family was the most important thing in Charles’ life. He would put everyone’s needs before his own. He liked to do things to bring joy to his family, like taking a group of children to a wrestling match, taking a group of elderly women to Province Town, waking early to make waffles for slumber parties and staying up all night so the toys brought by Santa would be ready. Charles taught his children that with education you could achieve anything. He often said “Work smarter not harder”. Charles leaves to mourn his dear wife, Pamela Ann Johnson, three sons: Earl (Tanya) Howard of Medford MA; Charlie Michael Singleton of Boston, MA; Allan Otis (Clare) Howard of Medford MA; Daughter: Lizzetta Irene Johnson of Brockton MA; Sister: Sherrill Reeve of Nashville, TN; two Brothers: Don Raymond (Nancy) Johnson of Fetus, MO; John Anthony (Denise) Johnson of Salinas, CA. Charles is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandson, 7 Nephews, 4 Nieces, and a host of great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews and many cousins throughout the country including one very special nephews Dennis (Loretta) Johnson of Oklahoma City.  Joseph G. Grant, 89, of Taunton, died July 8, 2010. A native of Brockton, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He owned Buckley & Grant in Brockton for many years, and then retired to Centerville, where he owned Vegas East for 10 years. A resident of Taunton for the past few years, he was a devout Catholic wherever he resided. A member of Elks, VFW, Knights of Columbus and American Legion in Hyannis, he enjoyed boating and was a member of Lake Wequaquet Yacht Club. Catherine T. “Kay” (Ely) (Roduta) Rose, 90, of Brockton, formerly of Jamaica Plain, died July 4, 2010. In those years, she survived the Great Depression and worked as a machinist in the Charlestown Navy Yard during WWII. She worked putting keys on musical instruments, binding music books and making surgical instruments. A retired hairdresser and owner of Color N Curl Beauty Salon in Jamaica Plain, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, making candy, crocheting, shopping and surfing the internet. She was a member of online fan clubs and chat rooms since the young age of 82. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brought much enjoyment into her life. Catherine was the daughter of the late Julia Holland Ely and Horace Ely, wife of the late Peter C. Roduta and Walter F. Rose, devoted mother of Peter G. Roduta and his wife Karen of Townsend, MA, Elaine Sally Hanson and her fiancé Leonard Cruickshank of Brockton, loving grandmother of Christine Duncan and her husband Adam, Wendy Roduta, Merissa Roduta and Peter J.  Louis H. Puopolo, 83, of Brockton, died April 30, 2010. A native of Avon, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. A crossing guard at Montello until 2005, he also worked at Avon Sole Company and was a custodian at Brockton High School until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed bowling, playing baseball and going to Foxwoods. Louis was the beloved husband of 62 years of Doris M. Doreen A. (Augelli) Quaglia, 51, of Brockton, died December 29, 2009. A native of Roslindale and Hyde Park, she resided in Brockton for the past 20 years. She graduated from Quincy College, Phi Beta Theta with honors, with an A.B. in Paralegal Studies, in 1988. Doreen was employed as a health inspector for 15 years for the Brockton Board of Health and was named “Brockton’s Woman of The Year” in 2001. An advocate for autistic children, she was also engaged in charitable activities such as Secret Santa. Doreen was the daughter of Marilyn Augelli of Hyde Park and the late Douglas Augelli, beloved wife of Atty. Anthony and Martha (Mayers), he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from Plymouth Rubber Company and served as union president. Active in the Knights of Columbus, Tony was a 4th Degree Cardinal O’Connell Assembly member, a Seville Council # 93 member, past Grand Knight and past District Deputy, a St. Edith Stein Parish Council member, and a friend of Bill W. Michele J. “Mickey” Hadges , 49, of Sandwich, formerly of Brockton, died Oct. 26, 2008 after a brief illness. A 1977 graduate of Brockton High School, Mickey worked locally in the food and beverage industry for over 25 years. Mickey loved to shop, garden, birdwatch, spend time with her dog Loco, explore Cape Cod natural history and go to the beach. Maria L. (Nelson) Belcher, 66, of Kingston, formerly of Brockton, died on April 17, 2008. Native of Dorchester, she was a caring daughter to her late parents, Russell and Katherine (Cronin) Nelson of Braintree. She resided in Brockton for over 30 years where she was a true homemaker, raising her three sons and enjoying her home, gardening and great cooking, especially Sunday dinners. Despite lifelong health issues, Maria was a hard-working and generous person who put others first and she was an animal lover. Maria was the devoted wife for 51 years of John J. “Bubba” Belcher, a retired Braintree police officer, the loving and beloved mother of John J. Belcher Jr. and James R. Belcher, both of Lakeland, Florida and Gregory N. Belcher of Waitt Funeral Home in Brockton, dear sister of Christine Ayoubi of Malden and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Katherine A. “Kay” (Danksewicz) Waitt, 85, of Brockton, was born on March 4, 1923 and died July 5, 2008. Native of Abington, she was a 1940 graduate of Abington High School where she was captain of the girls’ basketball team. Married to Edward J. Waitt since July 12, 1942, she assisted him at Waitt Funeral Home for many years. Kay was active in women’s clubs and St. Casimir School and Church activities, took community school courses and enjoyed many crafts until becoming blind.
